New Southlake Satellite Diagnostic Imaging Centre in Georgina provides timely access to services close to home
Newmarket, Ontario – November 20, 2013 – In an effort to improve access to diagnostic imaging services for the Georgina community, Southlake Regional Health Centre, in collaboration with the Georgina Health Centre, has announced the opening of a completely integrated satellite Diagnostic Imaging Centre. Located in the existing Georgina Health Centre and utilizing state-of the art equipment, diagnostic imaging professionals will provide out‐patient ultrasound and x‐ray exams for patients of the Georgina Health Centre and residents of the Georgina community.
“Last year, Southlake provided over 3,000 routine ultrasound and x‐ray exams to patients in the Georgina area,” says David Walker, Southlake Director, Paramedical Services. “Due to high demand and limited hospital resources, these patients waited 2‐3 times longer for exams at Southlake than would have been the case if services, linked with our hospital and its specialists, were available locally.”
“Georgina is a rapidly growing community,” adds Dieneen Lepp, President of Georgina Health Centre. “With the demand on healthcare resources poised to increase exponentially, timing for these expanded services for Georgina residents could not have been better.”
For the first time, area residents will receive imaging services that are seamlessly integrated with their Southlake patient chart without the need to travel to Newmarket. This not only helps patients avoid associated travel costs, but it also dramatically improves the way and the speed at which services can be provided and helps eliminate the need for repeat testing, which may have been the case previously.
In addition, Georgina family physicians will benefit from having “real‐time” access to high quality diagnostic reports and images from Southlake’s large team of experienced radiologists.
“Transform Healthcare Relationships is a key direction in Southlake’s new Strategic Plan,” says Dr. Dave Williams, Southlake President & CEO. “With the creation of this satellite Diagnostic Imaging Centre, we believe that we are truly transforming healthcare through access to important imaging services for people in the Georgina community.”
Georgina Health Centre will be offering flu shot clinics on Tuesday evenings commencing October 29, 2013 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. located at 716 The Queensway South, Keswick.
